July Blog Hop at Technique Junkies

Happy Wednesday Junkies and Happy July-

There are lots of new stamps being released today at Technique Junkies.  To celebrate we are having a blog hop and a SALE!!!

Regarding the Sale--All new release stamps are 15% off through July 8th.

For the HOP---The Design Team has been working hard to provide some inspiration using these new stamps. If you've already been following along on the hop then you've just come from Jane Bosi's Blog.  She is so talented and creative!!
If you are just now hearing about the hop and would like to follow along, you'll need to start at the Design Team Blog HERE and work your way through each of the Team Members Blogs. You'll be directed at each site where to go next but I'll list all of the blogs in order below in case you get lost.

I've created two cards today using the same stamp.  I chose to use a Palettini stamp called Botanical Bee, in two different ways.  This is a set of 5 stamps.  You get the bee and 4 different sentiments.

This card is pretty straight forward. I found the papers in my stash ( I love it when that happens). The label was cut and embossed using my Cuttlebug and a Spellbinders die.
  1. Stamp the bee in black and emboss in clear embossing powder
  2. Color the body of the bee in yellow and the wings in a blue green color (I used Copic BG10).
  3. Temporarily lay the bee on the card. Using a pencil, lightly draw a long loop from the top right hand corner of the card and going left.  The end of the loop should end under where the bee will be placed.
  4. Sew around the edge of your card base in black, starting in the upper right hand corner.  When you have sewn around the entire card and have met up with the starting point, turn your card and sew along the line you drew in pencil earlier, ending where your bee will be placed.
  5. If any pencil line can be seen, erase it.
  6. Using chalks (or distress inks) that match your papers, rub color on the area that will surround the bee once it's placed.
  7. Tie bakers twine around the patterned paper and adhere it to your card.
  8. Attach the label and the bee... TAH DAH!

This card was made using the same stamp set and a little mixed media.  I started with a patterned paper and then used a combination of Distress Inks, Glimmer Mists, and Gesso.  Great examples of how to use these inks can be found on the Artistic Effects CD in the TJ Store. I should also mention that I used a background stamp making this card.  I  only used a small section of the stamp in the upper left and bottom right hand corner of the card.  The stamp I used is called Wasted.

Once I had the background looking the way I liked it, I stamped the bee and sentiment on the card.  I used a white pen to outline the bee and I used a black pen to draw lines around the edge in a free form manner. To finish off, I used a stiff brush and flicked a few white specks on the card using white craft paint.

I don't have a lot of experience with mixed media but this card was SO MUCH FUN. I'm pretty sure you're going to see more of this from me in the future.

Don't forget to check out ALL of the new stamps at Technique Junkies and to also take advantage of the sale.

Next on the Hop is Marilyn Hughes.  You're in for a treat because she is amazingly talented.
