Beautiful Butterflies

Hello!
Today I am sharing three cards I created using the June Card Kit by Simon Says Stamp.  I am in LOVE with this stamp set.  The whole kit is really amazing.  As soon as I saw this kit I had three people in mind that I wanted to make cards for.

I am going to list some basic directions on how I made my cards but you can also watch my video of how these cards were made by clicking on the link below.

The first card I started on, was for a beautiful young lady who is graduating. This pastel card is soft and feminine but also has a lot of sparkle.   I started on this card first because I needed to allow time for the Glitter Gel to dry. This card was made using this Butterfly Stencil from Simon Says Stamp.

  1. First I taped down my card base and the stencil using some Washi tape.  I like to use Neenah 80# Solar White Card Stock because it is Copic friendly, and any kind of Washi tape will work, or you can use blue or purple tape. I like to rub the tape on my hand or my shirt first to make sure it isn't too sticky. If it's too sticky it will damage your paper.
  2. I inked my butterflies using soft feminine colors but I think bright and bold would be beautiful too! I used a blending tool with a wooden handle to make this card but you could use whatever you have.  The brushes work great but mine were dirty ha ha. I don't have a ton of inks but I have listed the ones I used below.
  3. After the inking was done, I removed the stencil so I could go over each butterfly lightly with the same color ink, creating a soft glow around each.
  4. I cleaned my stencil and then placed it back on my work in the same exact spot it had been originally. Using a craft knife, I spread a thin even coat of  Gina K Glitz Glitter Gel over the stencil. The Washi tape was carefully removed and I then set my card front aside to let dry.  Make sure you wash you stencil and craft knife right away.
  5. After the Gel was dry, I stamped the sentiment in Memento Luxe Elderberry ink and embossed using clear embossing powder.
  6. I placed some clear Nuvo gemstones on the card using liquid glue.
  7. The card front was matted with a piece of lavender card stock and then mounted on a card base made from Neenah 110# card stock.
  8. I trimmed my card down to a final size of 8 1/2 x 4.
My second and third cards are basically made the same however one was mounted on some patterned paper and was given some extra color around the butterflies, while the other was left clean and simple. Here are some of the steps I took to create these cards:

  1. I stamped my butterflies and sentiment on a piece of Neenah 80# card stock and then embossed them with clear embossing powder.
  2. I colored my butterflies using Copic markers. You can see how these were colored in the video above.  Colors used were:  Large Butterfly-R05, R22, R02      Small Butterfly-YG21, Y15  Butterfly Body-C5.  I used R00 and Y00 to create the glow around each butterfly and then used a colorless blender to soften the edges.
  3. Once colored I mounted both card fronts on a piece of black card stock.
  4. One of my cards was finished at this point and so I placed it on a card base made from Neenah 110# card stock.  The end card is  roughly 4 1/2 x 5 inches.
  5. The other card was mounted on a piece of patterned paper before being placed on the card base and was therefore a little larger when finished.

Fancy Pants

 Hey there Fancy Pants

Well this post will be short and sweet!  Short because I did this so long ago I can't remember the details Ha Ha!  Sweet because....isn't this image just the sweetest?!
I found a picture of this card while going through some of my photographs.  I had made this card months and months ago for my Sister-In-Law who loves to garden.  I guess I got busy and just never posted it.  Sometimes I worry about myself.  I'm sure we were busy and immersed in our grand kids sports at the time, or at least that's the excuse I'm using.
Sorry to say I didn't write down the Copic Colors I used.  Or, if I did, I can't find them now.  One thing I do know about this card is that I LOVE coloring these sweet images by My Besties.  They are always so much fun to color.  I may just have pull out my markers and color up another of these cuties in the next week or so.
You can find this cute image at the My Besties Shop HERE.  This image is called Fancy Pants, and I think she's adorable.  This is a digital image that I printed out on some Neenah Cardstock and colored with my Copic Markers.  I matted the finished image on a piece of patterned paper and then embellished with some flowers and jewels.  Well, like I said, short and sweet!

Let's Pig Out

Hi There
I hope everyone is doing well and safe.  Today I'm sharing a card I created for my granddaughter Emma's 12th Birthday.  Good Grief!  Where does the time go?!
I posted the video of this card a little while back but didn't want to really publish it on my blog until her birthday.
I think this little pig is just too cute!  I couldn't resist using him on a birthday card for little miss.  She LOVES the teal colors so of course I had to use those too.  I created this card with a couple of Honey Bee stamp sets that I "NEEDED".  The pig and the sentiment come from a stamp set called Bad Influence- The 4x6 stamp set has the pig and a bunch of cute sentiments that can be mixed and matched to say different things.    The cupcake comes from another stamp set called Piece of Cake.  You'll see me using both of these in the future because I love them both and they are very versatile.
If you would like to see how I created this card, you can view my video below, or scroll down for some of the details and supplies.

Here are the steps I took to create this card:

  1. Stamp the cupcake liner, I used silver embossing powder and then used some grey markers to provide shading.
  2. Stamp the pig and the cupcake top.  If using Copic markers you'll want to make sure you are using a Copic Friendly ink. I used Gina K Obsidian Black ink and stamped  onto some Neenah 80# Solar White card stock.  Both the ink and the paper are Copic friendly.
  3.  While my stamps and ink were out, I stamped all of these images on some masking paper and fussy cut them out so I could do my inking later.
  4. I colored both images with Copic Markers (details are below)
  5. Place the masks over the colored images, making sure to place them inside of the stamped lines.  Anything you place on the outside of that line will not be inked and can leave a white line on the outside of your image.
  6. I inked the bottom edge of my card in green, going up from the bottom of the card to about 1/3 of the way up on the images.
  7. I temporarily taped a Honey Bee stencil called Fluttering Hearts to the card and to my work surface. I used washi tape to do this, so it wouldn't damage my card. I used some teal colored ink and brushed it over the stencil, starting where the green left off and going up toward then top of the card, getting lighter as I got toward the top, since I wanted to stamp a sentiment there.
  8. Remove masks.-  I tied a bow around the pigs neck and added an embossed sentiment to the top of the card.  I also added a bit of sparkle to the cupcake top using a Spectrum Noir Pen.
  9. I matted this with a piece of teal card stock then I glued that to an A2 sized card base I made out of Neenah 110# heavyweight card stock.
  10.  Ta Da, birthday card complete!
This was a really fun card to create.  Since I have a Misty Stamping Tool, I actually created two cards at the same time. I made them exactly alike, just to make it easy on myself.  Now I have an extra in my stash for one of those days when you need a card and have no time to make it!

Sending Warm Thoughts

Hello,
I am truly sending everyone Warm Thoughts today, as our beautiful Spring temperatures have drastically fallen and and given us a shock as we plummet back to frigid temps. While temporary I'm sure, it has been quite a shock to my system!

I felt like getting my Copic markers out today.  I love this image from  All Dressed Up.  Well I actually love ALL of her images.  If I had the time and money I would color them all!!

Today I'm using this image called Pretty Lashes.

This card works up really quick and was a real joy to color.

First I printed this image then cut it out with Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Oval die.  I colored this with the Copic markers listed below.

I also used a die from a card kit that I had gotten from Hero Arts a long time ago.  It was used to create the yellow rays behind the image.  It doesn't appear that this die is available any longer, which is a shame because it's really cute but any die or patterned paper could be used.  You could also just cut strips of yellow paper and get the same effect.

I used some craft foam to lift the image off of the back of the card and did the same with the sentiment.

To add a little detail and interest to the card, I put some shimmer on the yellow rays with a Spectrum Noir pen and then added some yellow and white pearl drops to the flowers in her hair.

I don't know why, but the images from All Dressed Up always make me happy.

I'll be entering this image in the All Dressed Up March Challenge.

Under the Sea Birthday Card

Hello,
Hope everyone is well and getting lots of crafts done during this self isolation thing we're going through.  I have been working really hard to get caught up on some of my card making.

Today I made a couple of cards by combining several stamp sets together to create a scene.

I think they turned out pretty cute and I was able to get a little more use from some these stamps by combining them with others to get a different look.

I used a stamp set by Simon Says Stamp called Under The Sea Creatures, to provide all of the cute sea critters on these cards; I used a stamp set from Lawn Fawn called Ahoy Matey to provide the treasure chest and I used a set from Flora & Fauna to use some of the greenery to look like seaweed, and I used a stamp set from Simon Says Stamp called Party Like a Panda for all of the small sentiments on the front of the card.

If you want to watch how I pulled it all together, you can check out my video on YouTube by clicking  HERE, or by clicking on the video below:

Making an Easel Card

Today I want to re-visit an old technique, Easel Cards.  I hadn't made one for a really long time.  I was reminded of them when I was looking at some of my old blog posts. I used to make Easel Cards a lot when I first started making cards.  Back then, I was trying to gobble up any information on techniques and processes to learn how to do them (I guess I still do that!) anyway...... at some point I ran across a tutorial and was hooked on the Easel Card.  I know there are other methods of making them but I'm showing you the method I learned back then.
I had forgotten just how much fun they are to make and how much I love the end result. They make such a nice display piece, and after putting your time and effort into creating a beautiful card, why not  give the recipient a lovely way to display it?!
Once you get this technique down you will have it in your arsenal to use over and over again.

I made two easel cards. One is also a shaker card.  I did this because..... ONE,  I love shaker cards and... TWO, because I wanted to show you that you can make an easel card any way your little heart desires. I have the shaker card displayed above.

I said above that you can make these without a lot of fuss but once you get the basic method down,  you can get as elaborate as your imagination will take you.  There are some really cool ways to take this basic method and run with it. "The sky's the limit!" as they say.

I made another easel card for my mom but I am not showing it here on my blog, just on my YouTube channel.  I know my mom will see this first so...."Hey Mom, SPOILER ALERT!"

If you want to see how I made my cards in detail, you can watch my video below. And if for some reason that link doesn't come through you can click HERE

Birthday Balloon Shaker Cards

Today I'm sharing a few cards I created using the Simon Says Stamp February Card Kit.

I have several birthday's coming up that I need to make cards for.  What a great opportunity to make a few more cards using this kit!

I recently made a Valentine card for my husband using this die but I didn't really use the stamps as they were meant to be used. These stamps wrap around the die as you can see in the photo above.

I will list some of the details below but you can also click HERE to get to my YouTube channel and see how I made this card:

I used an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of Neenah 110# solar white card stock. I cut this paper in half on the horizontal so that it measures 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, then cutting turning the paper on the horizontal again, so I could score it at 4 1/4 which gives me a standard A2 card size. I used the heavier weighted paper so that it would give me more stability but you could also use a lighter weight card stock.

Once scored, you will be able to use the score line to help you see where the front of the card will be and use that to help position your die correctly on the card base. Once I had the die positioned, I secured it with some Washi tape and ran it through my die cutter, using the window frame die from the card kit.

I placed the card base in my Misti Stamp Positioning tool and stamped the balloon stamps around the windows that were just cut out.  I stamped using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black, as this is a copic friendly ink. I colored the balloons with Copic markers but I think these would also be pretty done with colored pencils. I think water color would also be beautiful..

Using a blending brush,  I brushed on some Tim Holtz Distress Inks in "Orange Marmalade" near the bottom and then blended that into some "Picked Raspberry".  Then using the same "Picked Raspberry" I inked over a polka dot stencil to give a little more interest near the top of the card.

Using some double stick tape, I attached a clear piece of acetate behind the cut out windows. Then on a piece patterned paper I attached some more balloons that I had stamped, colored and cut out.  I glued that patterned paper behind the acetate windows so that the additional cut out balloons would be visible in the windows.

Some of my cards were made into shaker cards.   In those cards I placed different types of hearts and chunky glitter.  For more information on how to make shaker cards, you can watch THIS VIDEO, and I have a couple more as well over on my channel.

Guy Valentine

Hello
As I type this post the snow is coming down in the biggest flakes and it looks so pretty. But, in true Missouri fashion, tomorrow it is supposed to be incredibly cold.  We're talking -15 degrees.  Yikes!  Schools are already cancelling.  I wish I could stay home tomorrow!!

I'm getting this Valentine card done at the last minute,  I have a good excuse for getting this done so close to the finish line.  Our grandkids basketball seasons are in full swing.  We attended 10 basketball games last week alone.  Yes that's right, I said TEN!.  Clearly we are dedicated, I mean they are our grandchildren but I think we may be a little crazy too ha ha. Just kidding, We love every minute of it. Despite that crazy week I still managed to find time to make this card for my husband for Valentines day.
This card was made using the February 2020 Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp .  This card kit is already sold out but a lot of the components are sold separately and are still available.  The thing I love about this stamp and die is the versatility.  I have used it today for a valentine but it can be used for so much more.
To watch me create this card, you can check out my YouTube video HERE.
or you can click on the video below:

I used the Trio Window Die to create this shaker card along with the Pre-made pouch made specifically for this die.  This is the first time I have made a shaker card using the pre-made windows.  I really like the ease and professional look you get from it.  The pre-made window really lets you create a thinner, less bulky shaker card.   I will still use some of my cellophane for future shaker cards because I like to re-purpose things,  but I also recommend these for times when you don't have any old packaging on hand or when you just want or need an easier method.

I love the way this card turned out.  The only thing I would change and advise against is using fine glitter inside your shaker windows.  The fine glitter gets stuck to the window and doesn't shake down I used an anti-static tool hoping to avoid this but the glitter still stuck to the windows.  It doesn't look horrible but in hindsight, I wouldn't use the really fine glitter again for a shaker card.

Hello Beautiful

Hello! I hope you are having an amazing day.  Today I'm sharing a card I created quite some time ago.  I actually thought I had posted this but then when I went to create a new card using this same image, I realized I hadn't! Sometimes I wonder about myself.

This image is by All Dressed Up and you can find it HERE. It's called "Pretty in Plaits".

As I said above, I just did another card using this image and I will post it in a future blog along with a video.  I actually much prefer the colors in the card above though-- I think because I used softer colors.  I hope to get the 2nd card posted within the week, so stay tuned!
I don't know the Copic used for this card but I chose colors to match the background paper as usual and then I stamped the word "beautiful"at the top.

I  created a die cut with the word "hello" using a fishers die.  I cut this word out using the die about 6 times then stacked them together with glue. This is a trick I learned from Jennifer McGuire's YouTube channel.  Once stacked together they create a really nice chipboard type embellishment.  I inked it up to match my card and then used some clear embossing to give it a shine.
I will be entering this card in the All Dressed Up Challenge #101.  Please check it out.  There are always tons of creative ideas over there.
Please be sure to stop by my YouTube Channel for even more cards and crafts.

Birthday Panda Two Ways

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

If that wasn't my motto before, it certainly is after my day I've had.  I intended to make this card with a multi color balloon but got sidetracked and before you know it, I had colored all of the balloons blue!

It was really just one crazy error after another.  Do you have those days?  I attribute it to being sidetracked and having too many things on my mind.... or I may just be losing my mind!!

Of course after doing the masking and stamping already, I decided to just make TWO cards.  I was determined to get one made like I had intended!  Persistence paid off because I personally think the card below with the multi color balloons is so much more fun!!

I just love this stamp set and plan to use it many many more times in the future.  I like it because it works well for male, female, young or old.  And who can resist a cute little panda?

This stamp set is from Simon Says Stamp.  The name of the card kit is Party Like a Panda.
You can find this stamp set HERE.

I don't believe the card kit is still available but the stamps and dies are.

I created video for both of these cards. The first card has an entire video of me going through the card and how I created it. But since I was truly having one of those days, I managed to capture the second video in time lapse..... I just have to laugh at myself in these times or I will just go crazy.

Therefore, I just went with the time lapse video and did a really short version just for fun.
Please hop on over to my YouTube Channel where you can watch both of these video's .  You can find them HERE

Trash to Treasure

Trash to Treasure For My Craft Room

Hello!
Hope you are having an amazing day.

I just wanted to drop on really quick and share a little "Trash to Treasure".
Recently while shopping at a local flea market, I found this beauty marked at $55.
I was drawn to the drawers and the brass pulls.  I have been looking for a storage piece for my craft room.  I needed something that was stylish but I didn't want to break the bank.
Since I wasn't in a truck, I left it there and decided to think about it.  The next morning I called and sure enough, it was still there and that they would be glad to load it for me.  So I borrowed my Grandson's truck and went to pick it up.

Now here's the real kicker to this story. When I got there, the man told me it was half off and that it was only $27.50.  Can you believe that!  $27.50!!!

I get excited about a bargain........... can you tell?! ha ha

I sanded and sanded on the top to get rid of all the water rings. Then I gave it a deep brown stain and  a thin coat of polyurethane to give it some protection.  I painted the rest of the piece with a turquoise chalk paint and then used an antique wax over the top to give it an aged look.  I am in love with the way this turned out.

I love finding things that can be re-purposed.  It is my mission this year to more often, look for something used before buying new.  I think we are such a "throw away" society these days, myself included.  I'm trying to make a change and this project was a success in my book.

If you would like more details about the items I used for this project just let me know in the comments.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.  I hope I've inspired you in some way. Perhaps you are inspired to start a project of your own or maybe I've inspired you to look for something used before buying new. Whatever it is, I hope you have fun with it.
